FAQ

When to grind your skis?

It is recommended by Wintersteiger to grind skis after each 50 hours of skiing or snowboarding.

Ice or stones can easily scratch the base and edges. This greatly reduces the ability of the skis and snowboards to turn and slide. This means you have to spend more power and get tired faster. Unsharpened skis on icy surfaces become dangerous and increase the likelihood of injury.

Why to take care of your edges?

On each edge of the ski after some time of skiing the burr is formed, which needs to be removed from two basic reasons:

  • ski does not hold on hard surface, becomes unstable and uncontrollable.
  • if the burr is not removed in time, it will round the edge, which means: 1. in the subsequent servicing, it is necessary to remove much more material, 2. the service life of the ski is significantly reducing
Why to wax the base?
  • wax on the base reduces friction, prevents snow sticking on the base and dramatically increases sliding parameters
Why to fix scratches on the base?
  • early repair reduces the risk of rapture of the edges and increases sliding parameters
Why is a structure so important?
  • different structures correspond to different temperatures and snow conditions, prevents the penetration of moisture into the base and the friction between the snow and the skis, which significantly contributes to better ski skidding
Why to adjust ski binding?
  • since bindings are exposed to outdoor conditions and temperature differences, it is necessary to check at least once a year whether the material is fatigued and all its mechanical parts are fully functional – this ensures a safe opening of the bindings during a fall
